Virginia State University Athletics

Jessica Ramos-Mattia is one of the most decorated softball student-athletes in Virginia State University history, leaving a legacy defined by competitive excellence, academic achievement, leadership, and service. 

A native of Accokeek, Maryland, Ramos-Mattia earned CIAA All-Conference First Team honors in three consecutive seasons (2012–2014) and was named to the All-CIAA Softball Team in 2012. Her career reached its pinnacle in 2014, when she was named CIAA Softball Player of the Year after leading the conference in ERA (2.09) and strikeouts (117). 

That same year, she was recognized as VSU’s Female Student-Athlete of the Year and VSU Softball MVP. Her postseason success included multiple CIAA Player and Pitcher of the Week honors, two CIAA All-Tournament Team selections, and leadership of the 2014 CIAA Northern Division Championship team. 

Ramos-Mattia majored in Agricultural Sciences with a concentration in Animal Science, participated in the Honors Program, and was selected to the CIAA Commissioner’s All-Academic Team. She was also named a 2014 NCAA Division II Degree Completion Award recipient. 

Following graduation, Ramos-Mattia served as a collegiate softball coach at Delaware State University and Lyon College, achieving conference championships, academic excellence, and national rankings. She currently works as an academic advisor at the University of North Florida.
