Ettrick, Va. (July 25, 2025) – Kaitlyn Scroggins has been announced as the eighth head coach of the Virginia State University volleyball program by Associate Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, Tiffani-Dawn B. Sykes.
"I am excited to welcome Kaitlyn to Virginia State University as the new head coach of our volleyball program." said Sykes "I've had the opportunity to watch her compete as a student-athlete and later transition into the coaching ranks. She has been part of a conference championship coaching staff and understands what it takes to build a winning culture. I believe she is the right person to lead this program in pursuit of its first-ever CIAA championship."
Kaitlyn Scroggins most recently served as an assistant coach at Florida A&M University during the 2024 season. While at FAMU, she oversaw the team's serving, helping to enhance serve-receive efficiency and improve serving accuracy. Scroggins also assisted with recruiting efforts and scouting, ran team practices, and utilized Volleymetrics. The Rattlers won the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Championship, securing an automatic bid to the NCAA Women's Volleyball Tournament, where they played No. 1 seed Nebraska.

VSU had an impressive season last year, and I'm eager to build on that momentum with energy, discipline, and a standard of excellence that reflects the Trojan legacy."
Scroggins is also heavily involved in club volleyball, coaching the Prostyle Volleyball Academy's 12U and 17U teams and assisting with the 13U and 14U teams. She helped improve the teams' winning percentage by 50% in tournament play in a single season. Additionally, she has coached with the Houston Juniors Volleyball Club and the Texas Tornado Volleyball Club.
Before transitioning into coaching, Scroggins was a four-year player at Texas Southern University, where she played as a defensive specialist. She recorded 615 career digs and added 104 assists for the Tigers. She then spent her graduate year with the Rattlers, finishing fifth on the team with 127 digs. As a player, she qualified for the SWAC Tournament in all five years of her collegiate career.
Scroggins earned a Bachelor of Arts in Broadcast Journalism from Texas Southern University. She later received a Master of Science in Sport Management from Florida A&M University.
Last season, the Trojans finished 16-8 overall with a 13-3 conference record, winning the CIAA Northern Division title and returning to the CIAA Tournament Semifinals for the first time since 2019. They also handed Shaw University its first conference loss since 2022. VSU returns 13 players from last season, including all three All-Conference performers: Amaya Cooper, Anya McKinley, and Gracie Darville.
