Trojans fall in 4-set match to Fayetteville State

BOWIE, MD --The Virginia State volleyball team fell Saturday as the Fayetteville State Broncos posted a four set (17-25, 13-25, 25-19, 21-25) win at the AC Jordan Arena during the first CIAA Semifinals match.

The loss dropped Virginia State to 14-12 to end the season.

Morgan Green finished with 11 kills on the day to lead the Trojans offense.Kyra Marciniak also pitched in with five in the contest. Defensively, had two players reach double figures in digs as Kellee Craig had 23 and Marciniak had 11.

SET 1 | The Trojans fell behind early, dropping a tough first set 25-17. Virginia State trailed by as many as 10 points as Fayetteville State never surrendered the lead in a set that was tied up zero times before the Broncos took control.

SET 2 | Virginia State then dropped set two 25-13 to fall behind in the match two sets to none. Virginia State trailed by as many as 12 points as Fayetteville State grabbed the advantage for good at 3-2 in a set that was tied up two times before the Broncos took over the lead.

SET 3 | After dropping the opening two sets, Virginia State rallied to grab the third set and make it a 2-1 match. The Trojans seized the set 25-19. Virginia State took the lead for good at 8-7 in a set that showcased three lead changes before the Trojans took over the lead. The Virginia State offense also got a boost from three aces in the stanza.

SET 4 | Virginia State couldn't keep the rally going and fell in set four 25-21 to drop the match. The Trojans trailed by as many as nine points as Fayetteville State grabbed the advantage for good at 3-2 and Virginia State was never able to recover in a set that was knotted up three times before the Broncos took over the lead.
