RICHMOND, VA --The Virginia State volleyball team fell to the Virginia Union Panthers in five sets (25-18, 18-25, 25-22, 20-25, 6-15) Thursday on the road at Barco-Stevens Hall.
The loss dropped Virginia State's record to 13-10 overall and 12-3 in CIAA play.
The Trojans were led by a double-double from Kyra Marciniak, who registered 16 kills and 18 digs on the day. Amaya Cooper also added 10 kills to help the offense. On the defensive end, Kellee Craig chipped in for with 46 digs to go with five blocks from De'Mya Robinson.

SET 2 | Virginia State fell in set two 25-18 to tie the match 1-1. Virginia State trailed by as many as seven points as Virginia Union grabbed the advantage for good at 10-9 in a set that was tied up just once before the Panthers took over the lead.
SET 3 | Virginia State put the second-set loss behind and took a 2-1 match lead with a victory in set three. The Trojans the set set three 25-22. Virginia State took the lead for good at 19-18 in a set that featured 10 ties and eight lead changes.
SET 4 | Virginia State couldn't finish off a four-set win as the Panthers forced a fifth set with a 25-20 victory. Virginia Union grabbed the advantage for good at 18-17 and Virginia State was never able to recover in a set that was knotted up seven times before the Panthers took over in the second half of the stanza.
SET 5 | Virginia State and Virginia Union went back and forth all game, trading wins in the first three sets until the Panthers took the last two sets, including winning the fifth set 15-6, and the match. The Trojans dropped the first point and fought from behind the rest of the way.
