Women’s Track sits in fourth after day one at CIAA Championships

Durham, N.C. (May 2, 2025)- After day one of the CIAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship the Virginia state University Women's team sits in fourth place with 17 points. 

Samiya Dell advanced to the finals in the women's javelin finishing seventh with a mark of 28.53 meters. Janiya Harmon placed fourth in the shot put with a throw of 12.10 meters. Kenedy Shields had a new personal best in the women's long jump with a mark of 5.51 meters.  

On the track Markeria King ran a new personal best in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.15 seconds which was good enough to finish ninth. Elisha Barnes also made the finals in the 200-meter run after recording a time of 24.95 which clinched a spot in the finals. Desairey Gray qualified for the finals in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:06.41. Rose Wanjiru Muturi was the runner up in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:51.86.
