Lexington, Va. (Feb. 9, 2026) – The Virginia State University track and field teams competed over the weekend at the VMI Winter Relays and the CNU Vince Brown Invitational, turning in strong performances across both meets.
The Trojans' field events stood out on both the men's and women's sides. At the VMI Winter Relays, Janiya Harmon placed third in the shot put with a throw of 12.82 meters before capturing first place at CNU with a mark of 12.55 meters. In the long jump at VMI, A'Marah Parrish and Makeria King finished fourth and fifth with jumps of 5.48 meters and 5.43 meters, respectively. Jaylin Roberts added another victory for the Trojans, winning the triple jump with a mark of 12.02 meters.
At the Vince Brown Invitational, Samiya Dell claimed first place in the long jump with a jump of 5.22 meters and also finished fourth in the shot put with a mark of 10.80 meters. On the track, Ahnasti Brown placed sixth in the 60-meter dash finals with a time of 8.15 seconds. Kiera Coleman posted two top-five finishes, placing fifth in the 800 meters (2:38.69) and the mile (5:47.67). Mariah Perry and Skye Mitchell finished sixth and eighth, respectively, in the 60-meter hurdles finals.
On the men's side, Kwame Whitaker won the long jump at the VMI Winter Relays with a leap of 7.39 meters, while Elijah Epps placed second in the high jump with a mark of 1.95 meters. The men's distance medley relay team earned a fourth-place finish with a time of 10:43.43. Amarion Harrell finished fifth in the 400-meter finals in 48.60 seconds, and Leonie Bentley placed seventh in the 60-meter finals with a time of 6.94. In the 200 meters, Bentley and Harrell placed third and fifth, respectively.
The Trojans will next compete at the CIAA Indoor Championships on February 16–17 in Mill Spring, North Carolina.
