Harrisonburg, Va. (Apr. 11, 2026)- The Virginia State men's track and field team traveled to the JMU Invitational on Saturday where Kwame Whitaker and Jeryll Gaines won the long jump and triple jump respectfully.
Whitaker won his event with a best mark of 7.08 meters while Gaines won his with a new personal best of 14.24 meters. On the track Miles Artis-Ablack was second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.38 seconds, which is his new personal best while Amarion Harrell was fourth with a time of 21.61 seconds. Kiwan Williams also picked up a second-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles with a new personal best of 54.04 seconds. The distance runners saw a good performance from Emmanuel Kipchirchir who placed third in the 1500-meter run then second in the 3000-meter run. In the 3000-meter run the Trojans also finished fourth, sixth and seventh by Emmanuel Williams, Tyler Roberts and Alijzah Koonce.
The relay teams also had a good showing as the 4x100 team placed second with a new season best time of 41.41 seconds. The two 4x400 teams placed second and fourth only seven seconds away from each other.
