Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Virginia State Struggles as Millersville Claims Commanding Win


Ettrick, VA- The Virginia State University softball team hosted the Marauders of Millersville University on March 8, 2025, at 2 & 4 pm. 

Game 1 VSU 2 vs MILLERSVILLE 3
The game burst to life as Millersville quickly scored 2 runs, thanks to the speedy J. Langer and C. Vaughan, who capitalized on clever steals and a passed ball. Virginia State fought back with 2 hits but couldn't make it to home plate, leaving the scoreboard stagnant.

Millersville kept pushing with another hit, yet the runs remained out of reach. Finally, Virginia State broke through! Lauren Parham electrified the crowd with a triple, and Jaya Diggs-Hagwood drove her in, putting Virginia State on the board.

Millersville found hope with a run scored by K. Bumgardne on a sacrifice fly from A. Edwards, but Virginia State wasn't finished. They added another hit, and, in an exciting finish, Lauren Parham scored once more on a single by Nia Hall. This thrilling match wrapped up with the score of 3-2 in favor of Millersville.


Game 2 VSU 1 vs Millersville 5

The game began with Millersville confident but quickly lost players K. Bumgardne, J. Langer, and C. Vaughan in three outs. Virginia State took an early lead with Hailey Darrington, Lauren Parham, and Jaya Diggs-Hagwood hitting consecutive singles, allowing Darrington to score on a fielder's choice from Shmaya Hankins.

Millersville responded, scoring 2 unearned runs off A. Black's double and J. Langer's single, taking the lead at 2-1 after an error. Despite Shamya Hankins' single for Virginia State, they couldn't score again. Millersville extended their lead to 4-1 with singles from H. Watlington and C. Mazzucco, ultimately winning 5-1.

The next Trojans match-up is against the Bears of Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina on March 20, 2025, at 1 pm.
