Virginia State drops double header to Bowie State

GAME 1 | Bowie State 10, Virginia State 0

ETTRICK, Va. --The Virginia State Trojans were not able to notch a run against Bowie State pitcher Sydney Seals on Friday despite recording five hits and were shut out 10-0 by the Bulldogs.

Madison Jones (2-4) started and took the loss in the circle for Virginia State (4-14, 3-4).

HOW IT HAPPENED

Virginia State managed one chance with runners on third in the shutout, going a total of 1-for-3 with runners in scoring position. The Trojans last got a runner on third in the second, when Mylia Knight made it 60 feet away from scoring with one out.

ETTRICK, Va. --An outstanding offensive output was not enough for Virginia State on Friday. The Trojans tallied five runs, but could not hold the Bowie State Bulldogs at bay, and were defeated 6-5.

Ava Brown (1-3) started and took the loss in the circle for Virginia State (4-15, 3-5). Carma Williams started the ballgame and went two shutout innings while allowing one hit, walking none and striking out three.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 2-0, the Trojans first put runs on the board in the first inning. Emma Fleming's run-scoring single highlighted a two-run inning for Virginia State.

The score stayed at 2-2 until the third inning, when the Trojans put runs on the scoreboard once again. Mylia Knight's run-scoring single highlighted an inning where Virginia State scored twice, which brought the score to 4-2 in favor of the Trojans.

Virginia State's lead had disappeared by the time the fifth inning came around and turned into a 5-4 Bowie State advantage, when the Trojans tied up the game at five. Bowie State then scored one time over the remaining two innings to break the tie and grab the 6-5 win.
