Columbia, S.C.(Mar. 22, 2025)-The Virginia State track team opened their outdoor season over the past two days at South Carolina University Weem's Baskin Meet.

Janiya Harmon is our female field athlete standout. She finished 3rd over all in the Discus Throw with a personal best of 40.99m (134'05). She also finished 4th in the Shot Put with a season's best of 12.20m (40'0). The jumpers also feared well with Samiya Dell jumping her personal best in the High jump with a 1.56m (5'1) and 4.94m(16'2) Omeika Hogg finished 10th in the High jump with a 1.51m (4ft 11.50)

The sprinters feared well Eden Ramirez ran a season best in the 100m dash of 12.49 and Markeria King ran 12.56. Rose Muturi ran a season's best in the 5000m run with a 18:32.74 finishing 3rd overall is currently #1 in the CIAA. The Hurdlers fared well. Jaelynn Wynder-Hill ran a seasons best and made the finals of the 100m hurdles with 14.99. Jada Starks ran 15.79. They finished 7th in the finals.
Gabrielle Freeman ran a 1:10.59 in the 400m hurdles. She finished 9th overall.

Women's 4x100 with a 47.59 Eden Ramirez, Desairey Gray, Jada Starks and Markeria King, Women's 4x4 finished 9th with a 4:06.85 Freeman, Gray, Jada Starks, and  Hogg.
