Virginia Beach, Va. (Jan. 7, 2024)- The Virginia State University women's track team collected 13 top-10 finishes in the VCU Rams Invitational.
Emoni Coleman finished third in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:26.21 and second in the one mile run with a time of 5:45.62. Manuela Deigh was fourth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:26.99and in the 1 mile run with a time of 5:50.96. Manuelene Deigh was right behind her sister in the 1 mile run with a time of 5:52.95. Emetem Bezezuh was seventh crossing the finish line at 6:27.39 in the 1-mile run.
In the 400 Desairey Gray collected a top-10 finish with a time of 1:01.99. Elisha Barnes had the best finish for the Trojans in the 60-meter prelims, finishing in 12th place at 7.89. Manuelene Deigh also finished in ninth place in the 3000-meter run with a time of 11:36.94. Elisha Barnes finished in 11th place in the 200 meters with a time of 26.07. The 4x400 team of Gray, Coleman, Jordan, and Green finished in 8th place with a time of 4:14.81.
The Trojans also did well in the field events. In the high jump Aanya Howard collected a fifth-place finish with a jump of 1.55 meters. Janiya Harmon finished ninth in the shot put with a throw of 11.66 meters in the prelims.
Next for the team will be the Virginia Team Challenge at VMI on Saturday January 20.
