ETTRICK, VA - Virginia State secured a top conference seeding at the No.4 spot, earning the Trojans home field advantage against Fayetteville State for the quarterfinals on Tuesday, May 2 at 3:00 p.m.
The Trojans ensured home field advantage for the quarterfinals after splitting the regular season finale doubleheader against Lincoln (PA) last week.
VSU finished the regular season with an 11-17 overall record, 10-6 in the CIAA.
With a conference record of 10-6 and a 7-3 mark against Northern Division opponents, Virginia State won the tiebreaker for the fourth seed in the conference over both Elizabeth City State and Fayetteville State, by virtue of favorable head-to-head results.
The Trojans and the Broncos faced off once this season with Virginia State winning at home 5-0 on March 23. In that game, Alaijah Pratt pitched a shutout in the pitcher's circle and went two-for-three with two RBIs at the plate. Historically, the Trojans have won eight of their last 10 matchups versus Fayetteville State.
The semifinals and championship rounds of the CIAA's double-elimination tournament will be held at RF&P Park in Glen Allen, VA. The semifinals are slated for Friday, May 5 and the championship will be played Saturday, May 6.
