WINSTON-SALEM, NC – Prior to the start of the season, Head Track and Field/Cross Country Coach
Frank Hyland had less than a month to try and prepare his teams for the season. Despite barely knowing his teams prior to the season, Coach Hyland was able to learn his team quickly enough to lead the squad to rapid improvement each week. In his Inaugural season with limited time to prepare, Coach
Frank Hyland was able to lead the women's track and field team to a second place finish in the CIAA Indoor Championships after scoring 92 points in a two-day span.
Emoni Coleman took home the CIAA Championship Most Valuable Player Award for Running Events in just her first season in the conference after concluding her stellar day with a pair od first place finishes. Coleman placed 2
nd in the 800-meter preliminaries behind her time of 2:25.29 before doubling back to place first in the 800-meter finals after posting a 2:20.30. She doubled back in the Mile run to place first with a time of 5:36.15. Coleman posted 20 point by herself in the CIAA Indoor Track and Field Championship.
60 Meters
In her first collegiate championship,
Elisha Barnes had herself quite a day in her own rights after she posted a fifth place (of 21) finish in the preliminaries behind her time of 7.84.
Jayla Greene was able to finish 11
th with a time of 7.89 in her first collegiate championship.
Glenda Jenkins finished a place behind her in 12
th after posting a 7.90. Barnes would go on to finish seventh in the finals after posting a 7.90.
200 Meters
Elisha Barnes dominated the preliminaries after posting a 25.47 which tied her for first (of 30) behind a time of 25.47
. In 14
th place came
Glenda Jenkins posting a 25.96.
Desairey Gray and
Jayla Greene both tied for 20
th after posting a 26.87 as this was a new personal best for Gray. Barnes saved her best for last as she posted a personal best 25.47 in the finals which allowed her to be named the CIAA Indoor Track and Field 200-meter champion.
400 Meters
In the preliminaries,
Desairey Gray placed eighth (of 27) behind her time of time of 1:00.54 while her teammate
Glenda Jenkins placed ninth behind her time of 1:00.98. In her final CIAA Indoor Championship,
Jordan Burzynski placed 10
th after finishing in 1:01.07. Gray's previous performance allowed her to make the finals where the Freshman placed eighth behind her time of 1:01.18.
800 Meters
Emoni Coleman placed 2
nd (of 29) in the 800-meter preliminaries behind her time of 2:25.29.
Miracle Price placed fourth in her first CIAA Track and Field Championships meet behind her 2:23.68.
Alandina Hyppolite posted a sixth-place finish in her final CIAA Indoor Track and Field Championships meet after finishing in 2:28.23.
Manuela Deigh was able to complete her race in 2:29.11 which allowed her to place 10
th. Coleman became the conference's 800-meter champion after posting a speedy 2:20.30. Price also showed out in the 800 as well as she was able to finish in 2:22.51 while Hyppolite posted a 2:27.78 finish which placed her seventh.
Mile
Emoni Coleman was crowned a Champion for the second time after a 5:36.15 mile-run which placed her first (of 12).
Alandina Hyppolite made her presence felt with a personal best 5:39.98 which placed her fourth.
Manuela Deigh ran herself into a personal best as well behind her time of 5:42.50 which placed her fourth.
Miracle Price finished a place behind Deigh in ninth behind her personal best time of 5:42.74.

Reigning CIAA Women's Cross-Country Runner of the Year added yet another accomplishment after becoming the CIAA 3000-meter Champion (of 13) after she posted an 11:13.44 finish. Her sister
Manuela Deigh placed fifth behind her time of 11:25.87.
60-Meter Hurdles
Jaelynn Wynder – Hill finished seventh (of 17) in the preliminaries after finishing in 9.37. Wynder – Hill's time was fast enough to allow her to compete in the finals where she placed fourth after a personal best 9.17 in her first collegiate championship.

Emoni Coleman placed fourth overall and first in her heat after finishing in 4:06.98.
Distance Medley Relay
The relay team made up of
Manuelene Deigh,

Manuela Deigh placed third while posting a 13:26.37.
High Jump
Aanya Howard represented VSU in the high jump finals as she tied for fourth after covering 1.55 meters.
Long Jump
Desairey Gray placed sixth after her best jump covered 5.13 meters. Jaelynn Wynder – Hill's best jump covered a personal best 4.80 meters.
Triple Jump
Aanya Howard earned a personal best after her best jump covered 10.93 meters which placed her 10
th.
Desairey Gray's best jump covered 10.33 meters which placed her 14
th.
Shot Put
In her first ever collegiate championship action,
Janiya Harmon's best throw covered 1.33 meters which placed her second.
Brooklyn Richardson placed 12
th as her best toss covered 9.86 meters.
