NEWPORT NEWS, VA (January 29, 2023)- The VSU women's indoor track and field team, under the leadership of VSU's 1st year head coach
Frank Hyland, are leaving their mark on the season. The team had several top 5 finishes at the Vince Brown Invitational on January 29, hosted by Christopher Newport University.
Elisha Barnes dominated the women's 200M with a 1
st place time of 26.09.
Glenda Jenkins was not too far behind with a 3
rd place time of 26.53.
The Trojans controlled the women's 60m, taking the no. 3, 4 and 5 finishes.
Glenda Jenkins ran in with a 3
rd place time of 7.80.
Jayla Greene followed up with a 4
th place finish of 7.85, while
Elisha Barnes was on her heels with a 5
th time of 7.85 also.
Jaelynn Wynder-Hill leaped to the 4
th place 60m hurdle finish with a time of 9.41.
Emoni Coleman represented VSU in the top 3 finishes in the women's 800M, with a 2
nd place time of 2:22.34.
Securing a 3
rd place finish in the distance medley were
Alandina Hyppolite,
Emoni Coleman,
Manuelene Deigh and
Manuela Deigh with a time of 13:19.01.
In the field events,
Aanya Howard secured a 4
th place leap in the women's high jump with a range of 1.52m, while
Janiya Harmon threw for a 2
nd place shot put spot of 12.14m.
The Trojans will return to action on February 4 at the Liberty Open, hosted by Liberty University, in Lynchburg, VA.
