VSU Women’s Indoor Track and Field Improve on the Season at VMI Invitational

FULL RESULTS
LEXINGTON, VA (January 14, 2023)- The Virginia State University women's indoor track and field team are improving on the season after a good showing at the VMI Invitational. The 2-day meet gives high hopes to the Trojans and the VSU's 1st year head coach Frank Hyland as the team "moves in the right direction."

On the track, the Trojans ran in with several personal best times during this weekend's meet.

Manuela Deigh ran her personal best in the mile run with a time of 4:46, finishing 7th overall, while teammate Alandina Hyppolite ran her personal best in the mile with a time of 4:47, finishing 8th overall.

Manuelene Deigh ran a personal best in the 1000m run with a 3:17 finishing 4th overall. She also secured another personal best in the 3000m run with a time of 11:13, finishing 6th overall.

Last week's CIAA Track Athlete of the Week, Emoni Coleman, ran a blistering 3:10 in the 1000m run finishing 2nd overall alongside running in with a time of 1:02.37 in the 400m dash.

The sprinters also fared well with Jordan Burzynski running a season's best in the 400m dash with a time of 1:01.81, finishing 15th overall. She also ran the 60m dash with time of 8.24.

Elisha Barnes ran a season's best in the 60m dash with an 8.0, finishing 19th overall in the semifinals. She also finished 17th in the 200m with a 26.48. Jayla Greene also ran an 8.0 in the semifinals and finished 20th overall. She also ran the 200m dash with a 26.85, finishing 18th.

In the field events, Janiya Harmon threw a personal best in the shot put with a range of 11.81m, finishing 7th overall.

The jumpers also had a great weekend with Aanya Howard jumping a season's best in the high jump with a leap of 1.53m (5'3). She finished 7th overall. Desairey Gray jumped a season best in the long jump with range of 5.23m (17'2), finishing 16th overall.

The Trojans will return to action on January 20-21 at the Marlin Invitational hosted by Virginia Wesleyan College. The 2-day meet will take place at the Virginia Beach Sports Center, home of the 2023 NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships.
