ETTRICK, VA – Virginia State University Volleyball's Middle Blocker,
Leyla Conley, was recognized by the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association as the Food Lion's Week #5 Volleyball Rookie of the Week.
In three matches over a two-day stretch,
Leyla Conley amassed 31 points, 20 kills, eight total blocks, seven digs and four service aces in the first CIAA Roundup hosted by Bowie State. In the win against Claflin, Conley recorded a career-highs of 11 kills and 13.5 points. She earned the 11 kills on 15 attacks, leading to a hitting percentage of .600 which is a new team-high. The Virginia Beach, VA native also logged four total blocks in each match against Claflin and Fayetteville State.
The Trojans went a solid 2-1 in the weekend boasting sweeps over Livingstone and Claflin but lost to the defending CIAA Champions in Fayetteville State 1-3.
Virginia State will have a week to rest before they go on the road for their second meeting of the season with Elizabeth City State on Monday, October 3 starting at 6:00 p.m.
