ETTRICK, VA  – Virginia State University's volleyball Right Side Hitter, Amaya Cooper, was recognized by the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association as the Food Lion's Week #3 Volleyball Rookie of the Week.
 
Cooper recorded 34 kills, 14 total blocks, and eight digs to help guide the Trojans to three wins across four games in the UC Invitational. In the Belmont Abbey victory, the freshman had 10 kills and a career-high seven solo blocks which led to a team season-high 17 points. The Atlanta, GA native logged a career-high 11 kills in the win versus Salem (WV) while adding three solo blocks in the contest. Her hitting percentage against Salem (WV) was a career-high and team season-high .474 and followed that performance with six kills on a hitting percentage of .429 in the match against Charleston (WV).

Virginia State is set to open conference play this Thursday, September 15 as they play host to Bowie State in the VSU Multipurpose center at 6:00 p.m.
