ETTRICK, VA – Virginia State University's volleyball Libero,
Najlaa Williams, was recognized by the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association as the Food Lion's Week #1 Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week.
Williams tallied 59 digs in Virginia State's first four matches of the season, finishing second in the CIAA in digs for the week. The sophomore libero led the team in digs in three of the Trojan's four weekend games. In winning effort, Williams had a game-high and season-high 16 digs against Lock Haven. The Union, NJ native also added eight assists and three aces for the week.
Virginia State is set to open their home slate next Friday and Saturday, September 2-3 as they prepare to host the VSU Volleyball Classic which welcomes Elizabeth City State, West Virginia State, Shippensburg and Chowan in to the VSU Multipurpose for two days full of action packed collegiate volleyball.
