ETTRICK, VA - Virginia State Head Volleyball Coach Amanda Walker and the VSU Volleyball team will welcome five Trojan family members as the squad begins their quest to the first-ever CIAA Volleyball Championship.
 
"I am overwhelmed with excitement when I think about the VSU 2022 signing class," said Coach Walker. "It is not going to be easy replacing the leaders we had on the team last season but the 2022 signing class has potential to make history here at Virginia State."
 
The 2022 signing class consists of Amaya Cooper, Kelsea Saulny, Leyla Conley, Jennah Kareem and De'Mya Robinson.  Like always, Coach Walker went all over to find hidden gems to compete in the CIAA as just one player is from the state of Virginia. The rest of the 2022 signing class hails from Texas, New York, Washington, D.C. and Georgia.
 
While Coach Walker lost two heavy hitters in Jodorrian Taylor and Bethany Henry, she addressed those positions in the 2022 class, which consists of two Middle Blockers, a right side hitter, an outside hitter and a dual middle blocker/right side hitter.

Kelsea Saulny 
*Middle Blocker  *5-10  
*Washington, D.C. *The Academy of Holy Cross

• Three-year varsity starter at The Academy of the Holy Cross
• She was named co-captain of the varsity volleyball team her senior year
• She was a recipient of the Coach Sheehan Award for Excellence
• MVP of her high school team as a freshman

 
Leyla Conley 
*Middle Blocker  *6-0  
*Virginia Beach, VA *Princess Anne High School

• Instrumental piece of VHSL State Championship winning team as a freshman
• She was a part of an undefeated team as a freshman
• Three-year starter

 



Jennah Kareem 
*Outside Hitter  *5-6  
*Candor, New York *Candor High School | College of Saint Rose

• Played in 73 sets across 26 matches at SR
• Landed 100 kills, an average of 1.37 per set at SR
• Also totaled seven assists and seven aces to go along with 60 digs and 21 blocks
• Named to the Northeast-10 Academic Honor Roll for the fall semester

 



De'Mya Robinson
*Middle Blocker/Right Side Hitter  *6-0

• Earned seven kills on three separate occasions during her senior season (Clear Brook, Summer Creek and Heights)
• Led her team in kills as a senior
• Team Captain of her team as a senior
