Trojans Look to Carry Momentum into Doubleheader Against Frostburg State

ETTRICK, VA – The VSU softball team will have to switch their focus quickly as the team prepares for their second matchup in just two days against Frostburg State. The Trojans earned their first wins of the season last time out as they took down Bluefield State College 3-2 and 6-2 to even their record at 2-2.

The sophomore Macy Beville leads the team at the plate, as she maintains an astounding .667 batting average. Hailey Darrington leads the team in hits (5), runs (4), and stolen bases (4-of-4) while a .385 batting average ranks her third on the team. Desmyn Owens proves to be a well-rounded player as the dominant pitcher is also second on the team in batting average with a .400. The veteran Samantha Cunningham leads the team with four RBI. As a team, the squad bats a .292 from the plate as four players maintain batting averages over a .300. The pitching rotation averages just 3.50 earned runs per contest. Desmyn Owens is the ace of the rotation as she leads the team in innings pitched (13) and strikeouts (10) while maintaining a 2.69 earned run average.

The Frostburg State Bobcats are 3-6 on the season after splitting a doubleheader with Barton College.
