WILSON, NC – Virginia State is set to hit the road to open the season down south in Wilson, North Carolina against Barton College. The Trojans will compete in a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.

About Barton
The Barton College Bulldogs ended their season, 21-18, a year ago as the team caught heat late in the season right before the Conference Carolinas Conference Championships. The team went on a seven-game win-streak heater, which gave them momentum heading into their conference tournament. The Bulldogs were dangerous at the plate in 2021 going .276 on the season while driving in 152 runs. The squad did not have a ton of pop at the plate last season hitting only 10 home runs. To compensate for the lack of power, the team led their conference (CC) in stolen bases (95) and stolen base attempts (114). Defensively, teams were .279 against the BC pitching rotation. The teams' top offensive threats in Lindsey Massengill (.347) and Emily Bell (.346) will be back as the two combined for 34 total RBI's a year ago. The tandem also led the team in the field of play with 35 assisted outs each.
Series History
The Trojans are 3-8 against the Bulldogs as BC has won four of the last five matchups. That being said, the Trojans took down the Bulldogs in the most recent matchup, 11-10, as Brooklyn Bilyard accounted for five RBI while
Kennedy Presson drove four in.
