Najlaa Williams of the Virginia State volleyball team has been named a finalist for the King's Dominion Female Athlete of the Year and will be honored in the RVA Sports Award Show on Saturday, February 4 starting at 7:00 p.m. at the Altria Theater.
Najlaa Williams became the all-time single season digs leader after accounting for 17 digs against Winston-Salem State in the Quarterfinals of the CIAA Volleyball Tournament. The Union, NJ native led the CIAA and the team with 458 digs averaging 4.05 per set with a .893 receiving percentage. Williams occupies the first and second spots when it comes to CIAA game-highs in digs. She earned a career and CIAA-high 31 digs against WSSU before earning 34 the very next day against SAU. Williams earned 20 or more digs in four matches in the regular season.
Voting for the King's Dominion Female Athlete of the Year Award will start on December 15 and end January 15. The Winners will be announced live at the RVA Sports Award which will be aired on CBS 6. Food, drinks, a Silent Auction as well as an after party will be held as well. Tickets may be purchased at the door for $50.
