VSU Volleyball's Cooper, Williams Earn CIAA All-Conference Honors

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) announced its 2022 Volleyball All-Conference teams and superlatives as voted on by the CIAA Volleyball Coaches Association and Sports Information Directors Association and the list featured Virginia State's Amaya Cooper and Najlaa Williams.
 

Both Cooper and Williams were named Second team All-Conference honorees while Cooper was also named to the All-CIAA Rookie team.
 

Cooper, a native of Atlanta, GA., was second on the team with 220 kills averaging 2.32 per set. Even though she was second on the team with 520 attack attempts, she was also second on the team with an efficient .237 hitting percentage. She was also second on the team with 256 points in the regular season. Defensively, she led the team with 56 blocks averaging 0.54 per set. On seven separate occasions, Cooper earned double-digit kills. She earned five or more blocks in three matches this season.

Najlaa Williams is just four digs away from becoming the all-time single season digs leader in the Virginia State University Volleyball history book. The Union, NJ native leads the CIAA and the team with 441 digs averaging 4.08 per set with a .892 receiving percentage. Williams occupies the first and second spots when it comes to CIAA game-high's in digs. She earned a caree and CIAA-high 31 digs against WSSU before earning 34 the very next day against SAU. She earned 20 or more digs in four matches in the regular season

Head Volleyball Coach Amanda Walker's squad ended the regular season with a 15-15 overall record (9-7 CIAA). They earned the fifth-seed in the CIAA Volleyball tournament and will travel to Winston-Salem, NC to take on fourth-seeded Winston-Salem State on Monday, November 7 at 6:00 p.m.
