ETTRICK, VA – Virginia State Men's Basketball's,
Terrence Hunter-Whitfield, was recognized by the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association as the Food Lion's Week #3 Men's Basketball Player of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week.
Terrence Hunter-Whitfield averaged 20.3 points, 8.7 rebounds, 4.3 steals, and 2.3 assists on 50% shooting from the field and 40% from three in three games last week for the Trojans. In a 90-84 win over Bluefield State, the senior registered new season-highs of 23 points (8-of-16 shooting), 13 rebounds, and five assists. The Chesterfield, VA native scored 21 points (8-of-11) and logged eight rebounds and four steals in a 105-65 victory over Carolina University. In a close 61-58 loss to UNC Pembroke, the forward recorded a game-high 17 points and six steals, plus five rebounds.
In three games last week,
Terrence Hunter-Whitfield tallied 26 rebounds (18 defensive), 13 steals, and a block. The senior had a game-high and season-high six steals in a loss to UNC Pembroke, four steals in the win over Carolina University, and three steals in a win against Bluefield State. His 13 rebounds against Big Blue and eight versus the Bruins were both game-highs.
He currently ranks second the conference with 18 points per game, 11
th in rebounds per game with 6 and leads the conference in steals with 22.
Coming off a hard loss to UNC-Pembroke last time out, the Trojans will set to face St. Augustine's in a non-conference showdown this Friday, December 2 at 5:00 p.m. inside the VSU Multipurpose center.
