Recent VSU Volleyball Graduate Bria Anderson Named to NSU’s Athletic Staff

Ettrick, VA (June 25, 2021)- Alongside developing athletic and academic champions, Virginia State University (VSU) Athletics takes pride in preparing student-athletes for life after college.

Bump, Set and Spiking her way into post graduate success is recent VSU Volleyball graduate Bria Anderson. Norfolk State University (NSU) has recently named her Assistant Volleyball Coach and Academic Coordinator.

"My years of experience as a player prepared me well for the position," said Anderson. "I was blessed to be named team captain for three years. That title gave me the responsibilities of creating and maintaining a team atmosphere that I will carry over into my coaching role. I was able to learn many great qualities of being a coach and how to go about many situations from observing Coach [Amanda] Walker. Her coaching strategies, patience, and how hands on she was were some things that have stuck with me that I plan on carrying with me."

Anderson's leadership skills on the court was evident through her playing ability. While at VSU, she moved up the statistical ranks as 3rd All-Time leader in career assists (1388) and season assists (790 in 2018). Anderson also collected 145 career points, 127 career kills, 6.6 career assists per set, 70 career blocks and 331 career digs. In addition to being on the 2018 CIAA Championship Runner-Up team, Anderson received numerous pre and post season honors.

Moving at an accelerated pace academically, Anderson not only was a scholar-athlete, but she obtained her Bachelor's (Health and Physical Education) and Master's degrees (Sport Management) during her 4 years at VSU. She was named to several All-Academic teams as well as assisted the Trojan Volleyball team in maintaining over a 3.5 GPA since her arrival in 2017.

Although she is venturing to the NCAA Division I level, Anderson is staying to her HBCU roots.

"My VSU and HBCU experience has made my transition to the real world easy," said Anderson. "During my experience I was able to connect with some great alumni and other key leaders in the field that I wanted to pursue. Members of the VSU faculty and staff have always pushed me to do things beyond my vision. The amount of love and support I have received from VSU is unmatched. I plan on being a resource to future Trojans as well, because that experience is how I have been able to grow as a young professional."

Congratulations to Bria Anderson as she embarks on her new endeavors at NSU, while exemplifying Trojan Pride.
