ETTRICK, VA --- The National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) recognizes NCAA bowling teams that excel academically each year. Programs must have a cumulative team GPA of a 3.2 or higher for the academic school year. For the 2019-2020 academic school year, 57 bowling programs achieved a cumulative team GPA of 3.2 or higher.
Despite the second half of the academic year resulting in remote instruction, the Virginia State University Bowling Team, under the leadership of head coach Ronald Simms, Jr., earned a spot on the NTCA Academic Honors List.
Rounding out the year with a 3.45 GPA, the Trojans are among the top 40 on the list and have the 3rd highest team GPA in the VSU Athletic Department.
In addition to the overall team honor, VSU's Victoria Buskey, Shericia Campbell and Rhyan Crenshaw secured a place on the 2019-2020 NTCA Individual All-Academic Honors list. This year there were 380 honorees, representing NCAA bowling programs 69 at schools. A student athlete must have a cumulative GPA of 3.4 or higher for the academic school year to qualify for this award.
Coach Simms has remained true to his coaching motto of "One Ball, One Frame, One Goal," but it is also evident that the being academic champions is a part of the goal as well!
