CHARLOTTE, NC (February 25, 2020)- The VSU Trojans men's basketball teams will face the Panthers of Claflin University in the quarterfinals of the 2020 CIAA Basketball Tournament on February 26 at the Bojangles' Coliseum. Tip-off is slated for 6:40pm.
The Matchup
Entering the contest as the CIAA Northern Division Champs the Trojans are 19-8 overall and 12-3 in the CIAA. VSU is coming off of an 83-78 loss to the Panthers of Virginia Union Universality on February 22.
The Panthers will be entering the matchup after a 70-60 overtime win against the Vikings of Elizabeth City State in the opening round of the 2020 CIAA Basketball Tournament. The No.4 CIAA Southern Division team currently holds a 14-15 overall record, 10-8 in the CIAA.
The Trojans are currently led by Francis "BJ Fitzgerald with 11.6 points and Andrew Corum with 7.0 rebounds per game.
For Claflin, Letrell West leads with a 12.8 scoring average while Cornellius Reynolds controls the recoveries for the Panthers with 6.4 rebounds per game.
VSU men's basketball last faced the CU Panthers on February 5, where the Trojans secured an 87-81 victory.
