ETTRICK, VA (January 8, 2020)- The Virginia State University men's and women's basketball teams will travel to Winston-Salem, NC on January 9 to take on the Rams of Winston-Salem State University. The women's game will tipoff at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men's game at 7:30 p.m.

Women's Matchup

Entering the contest with an 8-8 overall record, 4-2 in the CIAA, are coming off of a 69-67 loss to the Blue Bears of Livingstone College on January 6.

The Rams will be entering the matchup after a 54-48 loss to Bowie State University. The loss currently has WSSU holding a 6-8 overall record, 3-3 in the CIAA.

The Trojans are currently led by Natalia Leaks with 11.6 points and 4.9 rebounds per game.

For WSSU, Amaya Tucker leads with a 14.2 scoring average while Brandi Segars controls the recoveries for the Rams with 6.9 rebounds per game.

VSU women's basketball last faced the WSSU Rams on December 12, 2019, where the Trojans secured a 54-46 win.

Men's Matchup

The VSU men's basketball team are entering the contest with a 10-5 overall record, 6-0 in the CIAA after taking down the Blue Bears of Livingstone College on January 6 (82-67).  

WSSU is coming off of a 75-72 loss to Bowie State University on January 4, currently holding them at a 5-6 overall record, 3-2 in the conference.

Leading the Trojans with an average of 12.6 points per game is newcomer Francis "BJ" Fitzgerald. Andrew Corum remains consistent under the basket for VSU, averaging 5.1 rebounds per game with 114 boards on the season.  Armond Griebe is not too f0r behind averaging 5.3 with 103 rebounds total.

The Rams are led by Robert Colon averaging 13.8 points per game, while Mason Harrell averages 7.2 rebounds per game.  

VSU men's basketball last faced the WSSU Rams on December 12, 2019, where the Trojans were victorious, 84-78.
