Box Score 2 LOUISVILLE, KY (September 13, 2019)- The Trojans volleyball team took a double loss on day 1 of the Bellarmine Invite Tournament, hosted by Bellarmine University. VSU faced Tiffin University (3-0) to open the invite at 9am followed by a 2pm contest against the tournament host with a score of 3-1.
The Trojans currently hold a 1-5 overall record.
Despite VSU taking a 3-0 loss (25-13, 25-9, 25-19) to Tiffin, Jailyn Ivey led the team with 6 kills on 17 total attacks for 6 points. Kennedi Cannon was not too far behind with 4 kills on 20 total attacks for 5.5 points.
The Trojans took a 3-1 loss (10-25, 25-16, 12-25, 20-25) to Bellarmine University in VSU's 2nd game of the day. Although they fell in set 1, the Trojans bounced back for a 25-16 set 2 victory. After taking a set 3 loss, VSU attempted rally back in set 4, but fell short of the win.
Ivey continued to lead the team with 10 kills on 31 attacks for 11.5 points. Â Deja Lester followed with 7 kills on 16 attacks for 11 points and Cannon with 6 kills on 26 attacks for 6 points.
VSU will face Minnesota State Mankota at 9am, followed by a 4:30pm contest against Christian Brothers.
