BOWIE, MD --The Virginia State volleyball team needed just four sets (25-21, 19-25, 25-20, 25-20, 25-20) to beat the Bowie State Bulldogs Monday on the road at AC Jordan Arena.
The conference win improved Virginia State's record to 4-7 overall and 2-0 in CIAA play.
The Trojans were led by a double-double from Gracie Darville, who registered 16 kills and 14 digs on the day. Anya McKinley also added six kills to help the offense. On the defensive end, Kellee Craig chipped in for with 16 digs to go with five blocks from McKinley.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Trojans opened up an early one set to none lead, winning the first set 25-21. Virginia State never trailed by more than five points and grabbed the advantage for good at 15-14 in a set that showcased three lead changes before the Trojans took over in the second half of the stanza. Virginia State also supplemented their offense with three aces in the opening set.
SET 2 | Virginia State fell in set two 25-19 to even the match 1-1. Virginia State trailed by as many as six points as Bowie State grabbed the advantage for good at 14-13 in a set that was tied up seven times before the Bulldogs took over in the second half of the stanza.
SET 3 | Virginia State put the second-set loss in the rearview mirror and took a 2-1 match lead with a win in set three. The Trojans took control of the set early when the score was 3-2 and never trailed to win 25-20. Virginia State led by six points at 10-4 before finishing off the stanza. Virginia State's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking six Bowie State attacks in the stanza.
SET 4 | Virginia State kept the momentum going, finishing off the match with a 25-20 set-four victory. The Trojans took control of the set at 3-2 and held the lead the rest of the way. Virginia State led by eight points at 22-14 before closing out the stanza.
