Box Score 2 ETTRICK, VA (April 6, 2018) - The Virginia State University softball team ousted the Lions of Lincoln University this evening in a doubleheader matchup! The Trojans secured a 13-1 victory in game 1 and a 14-0 win in game 2. VSU improves their season record with a 9 game winning streak with a 12-10 overall record, 8-0 in the CIAA.

GAME 1
The Trojans showed no mercy as they undoubtedly took the True Orange and Blue title in game one over the Lions of Lincoln University. Despite a scoreless first inning, the Trojans tallied four runs at the top of the second inning. Â VSU continued to dominate the field at the top of the third inning with six runs in addition to a home run by India Holmes earning her 2 RBIs. At the end of three, the Trojans had a strong 12-0 lead. VSU revisited home plate for a single run in the fourth inning, while the Lions worked to gain a single run at the bottom of the fifth inning. The Trojans hard work on field earned them the 13-1 game 1 victory over the LU Lions.

India Holmes led the way for the Trojans with 3 runs while Kennedy Presson, Amirah Chaney, Samantha Cunningham and Laricesa Miles each chipped in 2 runs. Vanessa Ruby and Tatyana Jordan added to the Trojans double digit scoring with a single run each.

GAME 2
VSU carried their momentum over to game two, leaving the Lions scoreless after five innings. The six runs that the Trojans collected at the top of the first inning included a home run by Tatyana Jordan, earning her 2 RBI's. VSU continued to make their rounds to home plate in the second inning with seven runs, giving them 13-0 lead at the end of two. Although the third inning was scoreless, the Trojans collected their final run of the game off of a Lions error at the top of the fourth inning. VSU overpowered LU in five innings with a final score of 14-0.

Chipping in two runs each for the Trojans were Ayannah Bowman, Vanessa Ruby, Tatyana Jordan, Kennedy Presson, and Amirah Chaney. Crossing home plate with a single run for the Trojans were Dominique Mulero, India Holmes, Samantha Cunningham and Laricesa Miles.

UP NEXT
The Trojans will travel to Bowie, MD to take on Bulldogs of Bowie State University in a doubleheader matchup on April 8. The first pitch is set for 2pm.
