ETTRICK, VA- The Virginia State University Trojan softball team, under the leadership of head coach Lynne Gilbert, will be traveling to Salem, VA to compete for the 2018 CIAA Championship title on April 30-May 2. The contests will be played at Moyer Park in Salem, VA.

The Trojans finished the regular season with a 17-14 overall record, 12-4 in the CIAA and 6-4 in the Northern Division. VSU's conference finish ranks them third in the CIAA Northern Division, behind Chowan and Virginia Union.

The Championship Consolation Round will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Monday with the loser of the St. Augustine's/Bowie State game versus the loser of the Virginia Union/Winston-Salem State contest. The final game of opening day will be a consolation contest between the loser of the Fayetteville State/Virginia State game versus the loser of Chowan/Shaw.

The double elimination tournament will continue into Tuesday with two 12:00 p.m. and two 2:30 p.m. games. The final game of Day 2 is slated for 5:00 p.m.

Championship finals will be played on Wednesday, May 2nd at 3:30 p.m. at Moyer Park. If a tiebreaker situation exists the ultimate elimination game will begin 30 minutes following the tie.
