Softball Unable to Defeat VUU in Doubleheader Action

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ETTRICK, VA (April 21, 2018)- The Virginia State University softball team was unable to defeat the Panthers of Virginia Union University in the Trojans Senior Day doubleheader matchup.
 
THE BASICS

GAME 1
The opening three innings of game one breezed by as both pitchers delivered strikeouts to their opposing batters.

VUU jumped ahead with two runs in the top of the 4th inning to take a short lead. VSU would answer back in the bottom of the 5th inning with a run by India Holmes. An intense play with Amirah Chaney stealing third, sat her out for the remainder of the matchup as Veronica Ruby replaced her on the bag at 3rd. Ruby would secure the run at the bottom of the 5th inning, tying the game two-all.

The visiting Panthers added a total of five additional run in the 6th and 7th inning to take the 7-2 win over the Trojans.
 
GAME 2
After a scoreless 1st inning, the Panthers got on the board in the top of the 2nd with three runs. VSU would soon answer back with runs by Tatyana Jordan and India Holmes to bring the score to 3-2 in favor of VUU. A quick 3rd and 4th inning made way for the single run by each team in the 5th inning for a score of 4-3.

The Panthers jumped ahead in the top of the 6th and 7th inning, adding five additional runs to the board for a 9-3 lead. VSU managed to bring home Laricesea Miles and Shaniya Marble off of a double by Ayannah Bowman. The effort would not be enough for the Trojans to take the win, falling to the Panther with final score of 9-5.
 
SENIOR DAY RECOGNITION
At the conclusion of the contests, the Trojans honored their seniors for their last official regular season conference game. Among those honored were Amirah Chaney, Tatyana Jordan, Laricesea Miles, Ayannah Bowman, India Holmes and Veronica Ruby.
 
UP NEXT
The Trojans will be back in action on Thursday April 26 for a single non-conference matchup against the Panthers of Virginia Union University. The first pitch is slated for 5 p.m. at the VSU Softball Field.
