Box Score 1 ELIZABETH CITY, NC (March 16, 2018)- The VSU Trojan softball team dominated the field on day 1 of the CIAA Roundup hosted by Elizabeth City State University. Taking on their first conference opponents of the season, the Trojans secured a win over Shaw University (9-1) and Winston-Salem State University (4-2).

Game 1
A quick three strike outs and a Shaw Bears run in the first inning gave VSU the momentum to take over the field. The Trojans defense along with pitcher Dominique Mulero only allowed the Bears a single run at the bottom of the first inning. At the top of the second inning, several error by Shaw advanced VSU's Tatyana Jordan home. The Trojans worked the bases as Kennedy Presson advanced home giving Laricesa Miles an RBI, while Amirah Chaney put an RBI in the books for Ayannah Bowman. Bowman would soon capitalize on a Bears error to advance home, giving the Trojans a 4-1 lead at the end of two.
VSU racked in four additional runs in the third inning as Jordan, Miles, Bowman and Samantha Cunningham gave the Trojans an 8-1 lead. Although the fourth inning was scoreless, the Trojans chipped in an additional run by Chaney at the top of the fifth and final inning. VSU secured their 9-1 win over the Shaw Bears to begin their 2018 CIAA conference play.

Game 2
The extra hour of sunlight gave the Trojans a chance to shine bright for their 6pm 4-2 victory over the Winston-Salem State Rams. Pitcher Dominique Mulero grasped another win for VSU while Bowman, Mulero, Chaney and India Holmes crossed home plate. The runs earned Mulero and Kennedy Presson an RBI.

The Virginia State University softball team will take on Johnson C. Smith University at 2pm and Fayetteville State at 4pm for day 2 of the CIAA Roundup hosted by Elizabeth City Stated University in Elizabeth City, NC.
