Box Score ETTRICK, Va. (February 10, 2018) – The Virginia State University men's basketball team secured a 70-61 victory over the Hawks of Chowan University tonight at the VSU Multipurpose Center.

Trey Brown led the Trojans with 18 points and four rebounds on the evening. Senior Richard Granberry was VSU's second leading scorer, ending the contest with a double-double performance with 15 points and, cleaned up the glass with 11 total rebounds.
Cyonte Melvin, Walter Williams, and Brandon Holley all chipped in with 9 points each.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half:
Cyonte Melvin scored the first basket of the contest for the Trojans at the 18:53 mark. Waymond Wright then added a three-pointer to grow the Trojans lead. The Trojans then jumped out to a 15-7 lead in the first 10 minutes of action. Chowan secured its first basket of the contest at the 16:21 mark, after trailing 7-0. A quick 6-0 run by the Trojans pushed their advantage to 23-7, before Chowan answered with adding five points to the board to close the gap to 27-16 with just under three minutes to play in the opening half. The Trojans secured a three-pointer by Trey Brown to take a 37-25 advantage to close out the half.
Second Half:
Chowan started the second half on an 8-3 run. Back-to-back baskets by the Hawks closed the gap to six, 46-40. Trey Brown secured a three-pointer to increase VSU's lead by 9 points at the 13:26 mark.
The Hawks would rally to trim the Trojans' lead to one, 49-48, with an 8-0 run. The Trojans pushed their lead back to six, 56-50, midway through the half. The Hawks would get 4 points from the charity stripe and knocked down a jumper with 6:14 left to cut the deficit once again to two, 58-56 in favor of VSU. The Trojans ended the game on an 8-0 run to take the victory, 70-61.
