ETTRICK, VA (November 5, 2018) - The Virginia State University Trojan volleyball team has worked hard during the regular season, ultimately claiming the 2018 CIAA Northern Division Title. The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) announced its official 2018 Volleyball Championship bracket with the first round matches being hosted on the higher seed campus' on November 6, 2018.
As the team continues to celebrate this great honor, last captured in 2013, they are refocusing their momentum to take on the Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith University for the first round of championship play.
The Trojans are led by sophomore Jailyn Ivey with 235 kills, sophomore Bria Anderson with 613 assists and senior Myia Jones with 55 blocks. Â Evenly matched with 26 aces each for the Trojans are Kennedi Cannon and Jailyn Ivey. VSU holds an overall 20-12 record, 13-4 in the conference, and 7-2 in the division.
The JCSU Golden Bulls are 4th in the CIAA Southern Division with a 16-9 overall record, 13-5 in the conference and 8-4 in the southern division. The Golden Bulls are led offensively by Gorana Bogdanovic with 205 kills.
The advancing teams will play in the semi-finals on November 9 at Salem Civic Center in Salem, VA. The championship match will tip off at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 10.
