Box Score ETTRICK, Va. (January 6, 2018) – Andrew Corum led the way for VSU, dropping 17 points on 6-of-10 shooting to go along with 13 rebounds and one block in 30 minutes of action in their win over Livingstone College.
Cyonte Melvin pitched in an additional 14 points and five rebounds.
Trey Brown and
Walter Williams also scored in double figures, tallying 13 points respectively.
Ja'Cory Livingston led the way for the Blue Bears, totaling eight points and three assists.
The Trojans jumped out to a 16-4 lead early in the opening minutes of the contest, but the Blue Bears continued to fight bringing the score 34-25 in favor of VSU with 4:22 left in the half.
Virginia State continued to add points on the board as they added 10 addition points in the remaining minutes to give them a lead going into halftime up, 44-33. Brown and Corum paced the Trojans with 11 and 10 points each in the half.
Livingstone College never stopped fighting despite an 11 point deficit at intermission, but Virginia State's 14-of-24 performance from the floor in the first half kept the Trojans in the lead.
Despite the intense action on the court, the Trojans continued to fight in the second half of regulation to secure the victory. Corum scored 10 of his 17 points in the second half to fuel VSU's offense, which shot 44 percent (21-47) from the field in the contest.
The Trojans also shot 40 percent (8-of-20) from the arc and 78 percent (22-of-28) from the free throw line.
UP NEXT: Virginia State University will host the Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith University at the VSU Multipurpose Center on Wednesday, Jan. 10. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 pm.
