Box Score ETTRICK, Va. (January 24, 2018) – The 8
th –ranked Virginia State University Men's Basketball team secured a 67-64 victory over the Vikings of Elizabeth City State University (ECSU) tonight at the VSU Multipurpose Center.

Trey Brown led the way with a double-double performance posting 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Cyonte Melvin finished with 14 points and five rebounds.
Richard Granberry and
Andrew Corum chipped in with nine points respectively.
Waymond Wright finished the contest with seven points, one rebound, five assists, and one steal. Lual Rahama helped the Trojans with six points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half:
Both teams battled for the lead in the opening minutes with the Trojans holding a 7-5 lead. ECSU had back-to-back threes to take a 11-9 lead. VSU then answered with back-to-back layups and a free throw to tie the game 12 all.
ECSU then took a 17-14 lead at the 13:13 mark. Virginia State then answered by tying the contest 24 all with 5:50 left in the half. The Vikings soon added back-to-back layups to take a 34-29 lead. Two free throws by
Richard Granberry in the final seconds cut the lead 37-31 at the intermission.
Second Half:
The Vikings came out the locker room adding eight points in the opening minutes of the half, 49-39. The Trojans continued to add points to tie to game 51 all at the 8:14 mark.
The Trojans then secured the lead for the remaining minutes of regulation. VSU then netted 11 points over the next seven minutes to grow the lead to 62-56. Two free throws by
Cyonte Melvin with twelve seconds left secured the 67-64 victory for VSU.
UP NEXT
Virginia State will host the Bulldogs of Bowie State University on January 27 at the VSU Multipurpose Center. Tip-off is slated for 4 p.m. The game will be televised on Aspire Television.
