Box Score ETTRICK, VA- The Virginia State University Trojan softball team was victorious over the Panthers of Southside Virginia Community College on April 20, with a final score of 10-2.
As the CIAA Championships vastly approach on May 4-6, the Trojans rounded out the contest with an 11-18 overall record.
Senior Janey Joseph and sophomore Amirah Chaney led the way for VSU with 2 runs each. Also advancing home were senior Maya Bailey, sophomores Kye-Neisha Logan and Dominique Mulero, senior DeMone Brickhouse, junior Rebecca Elder and rookie Vanessa Ruby.
Though both teams were scoreless in the first inning, the Trojans set the tone at the bottom of the second with 3 runs and 2 runs at the bottom of the third inning.
An unexpected boost of momentum moved SVCC over home plate twice in the 4th inning.
Despite a scoreless 5th inning for both teams, the Trojans kicked their game into high gear securing 5 runs at the bottom of the 6th inning. The additional runs gave VSU a 10-2 lead and the win.
The Trojans will travel up I-95 to take on the Lady Panthers of Virginia Union University on April 22. The first pitch is set for 12pm.
