Box Score 2 ETTRICK, VA- The Virginia State University softball team took down the Lincoln University Lady Lions in a CIAA Northern Division matchup on April 2nd.
The Trojans undoubtedly took game 1 with a final score of 10-0.
Holding the Lady Lions to only 5 innings; senior Janay Joseph and juniors Ayannah Bowman and Tatyana Jordan led the pack with 2 runs each. Chipping in a single run for the Trojans were senior Laricesa Miles, sophomores Amirah Chaney and Domonique Mulero and rookie Vanessa Ruby.
The Trojans warmed up in the 1st inning by using scarified flies to advance 3 runner home. After remaining scoreless in the 2nd and 3rd inning, the Trojans rotated the entire lineup to gain 7 runs. LU remained scoreless giving VSU the 10-0 victory.
Mulero secured the mound win for VSU after pitching all 5 innings with 7 strikeouts.
The Lady Lions attempted to battle back in game 2 grasping 2 runs in the 1st inning and a single in the 2nd. Their efforts were overpowered by the 5 runs VSU tallied in the 1st inning and the 6 runs they collected in the 2nd. VSU's actions were mimicked in the 3rd and 4th inning as they secured 4 runs in each.
Amirah Chaney and senior Marissa Hughes led the way in game 2 with 4 runs each. Tatyana Jordan and junior Rebecca Elder each chipped in 3 runs while senior Janay Joseph and sophomore Kye-Niesha Logan grasped 2 each. Senior DeMone Brickhouse also crossed home plate with a single.
Securing the save on the mound for the Trojans was junior Veronica Ruby after pitching the final 3 innings.
The Trojans will revisit the field on April 8 to take on the Hawks of Chowan University for a CIAA Northern Division matchup. First pitch is set for 12pm in Murfreesboro, NC.
