Box Score ETTRICK, VA-The Virginia State University softball team overpowered the Shaw University Lady Bears in their makeup game on March 29. The Trojans rounded out the single 7 inning contest with a 7-4 win.
Taking charge of the runs for VSU were junior Ayannah Bowman and sophomore Dominique Mulero with 2 runs each. Also assisting the Trojans to their victory were junior Maya Bailey, senior Marissa Hughes and junior Rebecca Elder, each with a single run.
Both team took the first inning as a chance to learn their competition as no one secured a run.
The Trojans turned their game on at the bottom of the 2nd inning with Hughes advancing home.
Shaw attempted to answer back at the top of the 3rd inning with a single run, but VSU countered their score with 2 runs by Bowman and Mulero. The 4th inning mimicked the 3rd as the Lady Bears were held to a single run while Bowman and Mulero advanced home. At the end of 4 innings, VSU had a strong 5-2 lead.
Both team toggled back and forth securing a single run in the 5th and 6th innings. The Trojans managed to stifle the Lady Bears in the 7th inning, leaving them scoreless. VSU proved victorious after the top of the 7th inning, taking the 7-4 win.
The Trojans will be back in action on April 1 for a doubleheader matchup against the Lady Bulldogs of Bowie State University. The first pitch is set for 1pm at the VSU Softball Field.
