Box Score 2 ETTRICK, VA- The Virginia State University softball team claimed a doubleheader win over the Bluefield State College Blues on March 27.
Securing a 7-2 victory, the Trojans moved past the Blues in game 1.
Each playing their respective roles, junior Maya Bailey, senior Latricesa Miles, senior Marissa Hughes, sophomore Dominique Mulero, junior Ayannah Bowman, senior DeMone Brickhouse, and junior Rebecca Elder each gave VSU a run for the win.
Starting off with a scoreless first and second inning, the Trojans kicked things into high gear advancing over home plate for 3 runs at the bottom of the third.
Bluefield attempted to answer back with 2 runs at the top of the 4th inning, to bring the score to 3-2.
The Trojans locked in their victory with 4 runs at the bottom of the 5th. The game moved into the final 2 innings with no home plate to give VSU the 7-2 win.
Game 2 undoubtedly belonged to VSU, after grasping an 18-6 win.
Bailey, Bowman and junior Tatyana Jordan each gave VSU 3 runs to take control of the game. Holding steady with 2 runs each were Hughes, sophomore Kye-Niesha Logan and sophomore Dominique Mulero. Knocked it out the park was Mulero with a homer run in the 3rd inning. Chipping in a single run for VSU were Brickhouse and Veronica Ruby.
 Attempting to take and early lead, the Blues opened the game with 2 runs. The Trojans kept their drive alive from the previous game tallying runs in each inning. The bottom of the third proved to move in favor of VSU with 9 runs. The homer by Mulero in this inning, bought home 3 Trojans.
Bluefield State did not stand a chance as VSU capitalized off of their errors for the 18-6 win.
The Trojans will be back in action for a makeup conference game against Shaw University. The single game will have a 2pm first pitch at the VSU Softball Field.
