ETTRICK, Va.- The Virginia State University softball team are preparing to take to the field for their 2017 season opener. The Trojans will take on the University of Mount Olive on February 4 in Mount Olive, NC for a 1pm and 3pm doubleheader contest.
Under the direction head coach Latasha Branch, the Trojans look to improve on their last year's record of 14-22.
Although the All-CIAA players have graduated from last season, the Trojans look to find leadership in their four seniors; Marissa Hughes, DeMone' Brickhouse, Laricesa Miles, and Janay Joseph.
The matchup will also be the season opener for the UMO Trojans. Last season, they had an overall record of 30-18. 
VSU is working hard to prepare for the 2017 CIAA Softball Championship on May 3-6 in in Petersburg, VA.
