FAYETTEVILLE, NC (December 16, 2017) – The Trojans men's basketball team of Virginia State University crushed the Broncos of Fayetteville State University, 82-61, at Felton J. Capel Arena this afternoon. With the victory the Trojans improve to a 8-1 overall record, 1-1 in the CIAA, while Fayetteville State College moves to a 4-7 overall record, 1-1 in the CIAA.

The Trojans, scoring the opening basket of the game, dominated the first half of the contest by building a 42-27 lead going into halftime. Fayetteville State College tried to rally, but could never cut the Trojans lead in the opening frame.

Richard Granberry (Chester, Pa.) led the way offensively for the Trojans in the half, shooting 4-for-5 from the field and 1-for-2 from the free throw line. Granberry finished the contest with a double-double with 20 points and 12 total rebounds.

The Trojans' domination on both offense and defense continued into the second half, as they continued to extend their lead in the second half. Trey Brown hauled in six defensive rebounds in the winning effort.
 
Walter Williams added 15 points and six total rebounds, while Cyonte Melvin went for 10 points on 2-of-5 shots while posting six rebounds of his own. Andrew Corum (9), Brandon Holley (8) and Philip Owens (7) all contributed points respectively.

 
The Trojans added 40 points in the second half to win the game, shooting 30.4 percent from the 3-point line for the night.  
 

Josh Bryant led Fayetteville State University with 21 points, followed by Zaire William who contributed 11 points.

UP NEXT: The Trojans will travel to face the Trojans of the University of Mount Olive on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at George and Annie Dail Kornegay Arena. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m.
