Box Score 2 ETTRICK, Va.- The Virginia State University softball team split with the Elizabeth City State University Lady Vikings (8-1, 0-1) on April 17.
The Trojans had an outstanding game 1 with an 8-1 victory.
Sophomores
Tatyana Jordan (Chesterfield, VA) and
Maya Bailey (Chesterfield, VA) led VSU with 2 runs each. Junior DeMone Brickhouse (Southampton, VA), senior
Mckenzie Love (Shippensburg, PA), junior
Marissa Hughes (Upper Marlboro, MD) and senior
Krysten Davis (Chesterfield, VA) each collected a single run.
ECSU collected their only run of the game at the top of the 1
st inning. Despite being scoreless for the first 3 innings, the Trojans collected their first run in the 4
th inning. The 5
th inning was filled with several great plays for the Trojans resulting in 6 runs. From Love jumping over the catcher to advance home, to Bailey kicking up dust to slide home, the Trojans dominated the field. VSU snagged an additional run in the 6
th inning to hold their 8-1 lead for the win.
VSU fell short of a win in game 2, with a final score of 1-0.
The Vikings gained a run in the 2
nd inning, bringing the score to 1-0. Neither team scored for the remaining of the game, give VSU the loss.
The Trojans will take the field on Saturday, April 23 for their final game of the regular season. Taking on the Virginia Union University Panthers for Senior Day, the first pitch of the doubleheader is set for 1pm.
