Box Score 2 ETTRICK, Va.- The VSU Trojan softball team overpowered the Blue of Bluefield State College in a doubleheader matchup on March 22.
The pair of victories moves the Trojans to a 9-11 overall record and earns them their 6
th consecutive win.
In game 1, VSU stayed alive with a 3-2 win.
Putting the Trojans on the board were junior
Marissa Hughes (Upper Marlboro, MD), senior
Alexandra King (Annandale, VA) and rookie
Amirah Chaney (Passaic, NJ).
Neither team scored in the first 2 innings, until the Blue jumped on the board with 2 runs at the top of the 3
rd inning. VSU did not answer back until the bottom of the 5
th inning. Â A double by senior
Cameryn Smith (Powhatan, VA) brought 3 Trojans home. VSU would stand strong, with a 3-2 victory.
The Trojans dominated the field in game 2 with a final score of 11-3.
Senior
Lindsey Wilkins (Nelson, VA) led the game with 3 runs. Smith and junior
Briana Pierce (Halifax, VA) each tallied 2 runs while, junior
Laricesa Miles (Emporia, VA), senior
Verlisha Brandon (Halifax, VA), senior
Mckenzie Love (Shippensburg, PA) and sophomore
India Holmes (Ruther Glen, VA) each collected a single run.
The Blues brought in the first run of game 2 in the 2
nd inning, but VSU stepped up with 5 runs in the same. Bluefield State responded with 2 runs at the top of the 3
rd inning, but VSU held strong to the 5-3 lead. Keeping their opponents down, VSU gained 4 runs in the 5
th inning and 2 runs in the 6
th inning to secure the 11-3 win.
VSU will take on Barton College on Friday, March 25 for a 1pm and 3pm doubleheader at the VSU Softball Field. Â
