Box Score 2 RALIEGH, NC- The Virginia State University softball team collected 2 win on day 2 of the CIAA Roundup, hosted by Shaw University.
In game one, the Trojans took a close 13-12 win over the Lady Broncos of Fayetteville State University.
VSU returned to the field for game 2 against the Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith University with an 11-8 victory.
Senior Linsey Wilkins (Nelson, VA) is credited for the win after pitching 4 innings and sophomore
Rebecca Elder (Chesterfield, VA) took the mound for the save for pitching the final 2.2 innings.
Leading the Trojans with 2 runs each were senior
Verlisha Brandon (Halifax, VA), junior
Marissa Hughes (Upper Marlboro, MD) and sophomore
Tatyana Jordan (Chesterfield, VA). Jordan led the Trojans with a season high of 5 RBI's.
Giving VSU a single advancement to the home plate were Wilkins, junior
Laricesa Miles (Emporia, VA), junior DeMone Brickhouse (Southhampton, VA), senior
Krysten Davis (Chesterfield, VA) and junior
Briana Pierce (Halifax, VA).
The Trojans had a strong 1
st inning with 3 runs. Despite the team not scoring in the innings 2-5, they worked to keep the Golden Bulls down. JCSU was able to sneak up on the Trojans and take an 8-3 lead at the bottom of the 5
th. VSU did not waste any time to regain the lead. After clinched 4 runs in the 6
th and 7
th inning, the Trojans secured their 11-8 win.
VSU will take on Livingstone at 11am and St. Augustine's at 1:30pm for Day 3 of the CIAA Roundup on March 20 in Raleigh, NC. All game will be played at the Walnut Creek Softball Complex.
