Box Score BOWIE, Md.- The VSU Trojans men's basketball team outlasted the Bulldogs of Bowie State University in overtime on February 17 with a final score of 75-73
The Trojans hold tight to their CIAA Northern Division top spot with an overall record of 19-5, 13-2 in the conference.
VSU rounded out the night shooting 32.4 percent (23-71) from the field, 42.9 percent (9-21) from behind the arc and 76.9 percent (20-26) from the free throw line.
Taking control of the game for the Trojans was junior
Kevin Williams (Franklinton, NC) with 15 points while senior
Javon Moore (Fairfax, VA) collected 13 points. Junior
Elijah Moore (Yorktown, VA) secured a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Javon Moore started the game off strong with a shot from behind the arc but Bowie State would soon answer back with a dunk.
Javon Moore landed another basket to give the Trojans an additional boost to jump ahead.

Kevin Williams put up back-to-back 3-pointers to expand the scoring gap. VSU went full speed ahead leading BSU, 36-20, at halftime.
VSU was able to hold the Bulldogs down for majority of the second half, until they closed the scoring gap with under 9 minutes left in regulation. As the clock ran down, the Trojans lead the Bulldogs by 1 point. A shot from behind the arc by BSU with 27 seconds left in the game gave them their first lead of the game. The Bulldogs fouled
Javon Moore with 12 second on the clock, giving him the opportunity to gain the additional 2 points to take the game into overtime.
The home team began overtime with a shot in the paint, but junior
Melvin Gregory (Weems, VA) reclaimed the lead for VSU with a 3-pointer. With 2 good free throws by sophomore
Tyler Peterson (Virginia Beach, VA) the Trojans were able to hold on to their CIAA Northern Division first place spot with a 75-73 win.
The Trojans will take the court for their final game of the regular season on Saturday, February 20 against the Lions of Lincoln University. This will also be the debut of the VSU Multipurpose Center. Tipoff is set for 4pm.
The Virginia State Department of Athletics annual 1,000 cans, 1 goal campaign initiative is underway. The canned food items collected will be donated to the local food banks. The Department encourages all fans, alumni, faculty and friends to bring a canned food item to all of the home basketball games this season.
