Box Score ETTRICK, Va. – The Trojan softball team ended their last regular season home game on top after defeating the Virginia Union University Panthers with a final score of 6-3. This was the last time the five seniors would see action on the campus of VSU. The five seniors that were honored were
Sudie Baynham,
Sade Holmes,
Jameshia Smith,
Jamilia Smith and
Logan Tollison.
Junior
Lindsey Wilkins is credited for the win after pitching 4 innings for the Trojans. She held the Panthers to 4 hits, 1 run, 1 strike out and 1 walk. Junior
Mckenzie Love took the mound in the fifth inning, for the save, contributing 5 strikeouts, 1 walk, 2 runs and 1 hit.
VUU Rookie Shontel Linnette (8-5) took the loss for the Panthers after yielding 6 runs on 9 hits in 6 innings.
Junior
Cameryn Smith led the Trojans tallying 3 hits, 1 run and 1 RBI. Teammate
Jameshia Smith followed up with 2 hits, 1 run and 1 RBI.
In the 1st inning the Trojans started strong with three-unanswered runs.
After trailing with a score 4-2, the Panther rallied back at the top of the 6th inning with a homerun hit to center field, securing them 2 RBI's. The Trojans answered with a 2 runs of their own at the bottom of the 6th inning, bring the score to 6-3.
The Trojans sealed their win by holding the Panthers down with 3 consecutive outs at the top of the 7th inning.
VSU is currently 12-15 on the season and 9-7 in the conference. The Trojans are preparing for the CIAA Championships on April 30-May 2 in Raleigh, NC. They are set to take on the Lady Broncos of Fayetteville State University for game 1 beginning at noon.
