ETTRICK, Va.- The Trojans men's basketball team had a close run with the Vikings of Elizabeth City State University on February 14. Cupid left his mark as VSU came out victorious with a final score of 53-50.

VSU shot 38.5 percent (20-52) from the field, 26.3 percent (5-19) from behind the arc and 53.3 percent (8-15) from the free throw line.

Sophomore Elijah Moore led the Trojans in scoring with 14 points with DeCarlos Anderson was the top scorer for the Vikings with 14 points. Senior Tyrece Little secured 11 points and 8 rebounds for VSU while senior Lamar Kearse came through with 10 points.

The Trojans took a quick lead over the Vikings early in the first half. Little gave the VSU fans two perfect dunks within the first five minutes. VSU stayed consistent on the court defending the basket and making shots. The Vikings were trailing by 10 with less than a minute in the half. It was a triple senior effort with senior Alphonso Leary and senior Xavier Parham and Little taking the helm of the half in scoring for the Trojans. The halftime score 26-18.

The Vikings rallied back and took the lead at 14:21 in the second half with a 3 point shot from Miykael Faulcon. VSU worked hard to withstand the ECSU's tough defense. There seemed to be no hope for the Trojans as the clock ran down.  A steal by Parham and a foul on the Vikings changed the game. The Trojans gained possession of the ball when the score was tied 50-50 with seconds left in regulation. Kearse took a chance and sunk the game winning 3 point basket for the Trojans at the buzzer. The crowd went wild as
VSU took the 53-50 victory over ECSU.

VSU is currently ranked no. 1 for the CIAA Northern Division with an overall record of 17-6, CIAA conference record of 11-3, and a division record of 7-1.

The Trojans will be back in action for their last home game of the season on February 18. VSU will tipoff against Bowie State University at 7:30 p.m.
